Rail surface quality measurement [QI]

The re-profiling of rail leads to characteristic machining features on rail surfaces. RM 150HR determines the Quality Index [QI], an international valid assessment standard for the objective classification of the quality of the rail running surface.

Reliable index
The machining features have different effects on noise generation depending on the type and scope. Therefore, the quality of the rail surface is quite important and also an objective criterion of re-profiling works. The determination of the rail surface quality is challenging as smallest irregularities, even below 10 mm wavelength that is typical for corrugation, must be identified. RM 150HR fulfills these specific requirements providing the quality index after the measurement.

The measurement is performed fully automatic within a few seconds. Three measuring pins arranged in parallel record the running surface across a wheel running surface of 20 mm. The support arm consisting of three parts enables the use of the measuring system on different track gauges.

The measuring system complies with EN 13231-2:2020
